DANCE STYLES
Below is some information on some different dance styles that we can offer.
Don’t forget if you’re organizing an international or language day you don’t need to confine yourself to just one- think about Paso Doble from Spain, Samba from Brazil, Cha Cha from Cuba, Bollywood from India, and Irish Dance!
If you are looking at a course leading up to a medal test, exams are available in all styles.
BALLROOM AND LATIN AMERICAN
As seen on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ and in films such as ‘Mad Hot Ballroom’, ‘Take The Lead’ and ‘Shall We Dance’ ! Ballroom is currently enjoying a huge revival in popularity and kids of all ages can identify with this fabulous dance style.
The Ballroom section includes Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Quickstep and Viennese Waltz. The Latin includes Cha Cha, Samba, Rumba, Jive and Paso Doble. A workshop or course can look at any combination of these styles or even focus on just one.
Ballroom and Latin dance students will learn a routine and work on their technique which often helps to focus their attention and gives them something specific to aim for. As this is a partner dance it can also encourage interaction between students, teamwork, and respect between the boys and girls (after a few giggles of course!!).
BOLLYWOOD
Bollywood is another dance style enjoying huge popularity. Full of energy, drama, expressive shapes and colours, this could be the dance style to capture their imagination! We have found this style to appeal to both boys and girls, who love the story telling aspect and being part of a bigger picture. Bollywood includes aspects of classical Indian dance, Bhangra, Hip-Hop and Modern Dance.
IRISH DANCE
This dance form is particularly energetic and LOTS of fun! Students will learn some basic steps and put these into an Irish Set Dance; switching partners, changing directions, and swinging each other around! Great for all ages but especially popular with younger audiences!
HIP HOP AND STREET DANCE Kids and teens just love this modern form of dance where they can dance to their favourite pop classics and current hits. This is a high energy dance style good for a workout and getting everyone to work as a team!
