Member of Professional Bodies:
Kieran was born in Dublin and grew up in a small town just outside Dublin called Naas. He attended his first dance class at the tender age of 7 when he joined his local Irish Figure Dancing Group. He continued his interest in Irish Dance for the next 11 years, competing in many Feis and performing in numerous shows. Kieran also studied Irish Set Dancing for a number of years. During this time he expanded his interests into other styles of dance.
At age 13 Kieran partnered up with his sister Breda to pursue their interest in Irish Waltzing and Modern Ballroom Dancing. For the next 10 years Kieran and his sister achieved top honours regionally and nationally, including the Leinster Champions, Munster Champions, and Cities of Cork, Galway and Kilkenny to name a few. In 1991 Kieran and his partner moved into the National and International League in Ballroom and Latin American Dancing. During this time they represented Ireland in the Modern Ballroom, Latin American, and 10 Dance events. They competed at many World and European events as Ireland’s top Amateur couple. They had the opportunity to travel to many different countries as their nation’s representatives. It is a time that Kieran looks back on very proudly. During this period Kieran and his partner became All Ireland Champions in Latin and twice All Ireland 10 Dance Champions. They also were the Open Irish Amateur Ballroom Champions as well of City of Dublin Champions and Dublin Gold Cup Winners.
Kieran also had a short career in the Classical Dance section being a finalist in the Open British Amateur Modern Sequence Championships and was a member of the team that won the Open British Old Time Formation Championships. Kieran and his sister were honoured to be asked to represent Northern Ireland on the 1994 BBC1 series ‘Come Dancing’.
Having achieved top honours in their native Ireland, Kieran and his partner moved to the UK in 1994 to further their careers. During this time they trained with many of the top dance coaches in the UK. Kieran enjoyed a very successful Amateur career winning many titles in Ballroom, Latin American, and 10 Dance Sections on the Amateur circuit. Kieran turned professional in 1996 and concentrated on a career as a teacher and coach. Kieran's sister Breda also turned professional 10 years ago and now runs her own studio called Dancetones in Newbridge, Ireland.
He spent a short period of time in America working for one of the top franchised dance schools and says it gave him a great insight into how dance schools can be run as a successful commercial enterprise. Kieran took his first professional exam in 1997 and went on to later qualify as a teacher and coach in Modern Ballroom, Latin American, Freestyle Dance, Hip-Hop & Street Dance, Argentine Tango, Salsa, and Zumba. In turn he takes great pride in having developed and trained many dancers in their own teaching qualifications, remaining a supportive and encouraging coach after they have qualified in the next step of their career tarting classes and opening their own studios.
In 2000 Kieran, along with his partner Gerry, opened their first dance school K.Dee.K Danceworks in Stoke. Since opening their first studio, Kieran has continued to expand on his knowledge and experience in dance. He holds a British Dance Council Adjudicator’s Licence and is a regular adjudicator and judge at many top Championship events in the UK and Ireland. During this time Kieran has trained many top competitors, including many winners of national competitons such as Champions of Tomorrow and Stars of the Future in juvenile and adults from beginner to Pre-Am. Kieran is also very encouraging and supportive of his medallist examinations and competitors and enjoys being a prominent and involved representative for the UKA and the Allied events.
Having outgrown their first studio Kieran relocated his business to 'The Rialto Ballroom'. This magnificent art deco ballroom is the perfect home for K.Dee.K Danceworks. The large, bright studio is a wonderful place to dance and perform in. Kieran’s dancers have been invited to perform at many prestigious events around the UK including many theatres, corporate events and festivals. Kieran lets his skills as a choreographer run riot in preparation for these events. His eclectic background in dance serves him very well when it comes to choreographing all the different themed shows that his dancers are asked to perform at. Kieran has also choreographed dancers for 2 music videos and was delighted with the experience that his dancers achieved from participating in such an interesting opportunity. Kieran is keen on developing his own professional career, including the new dance/fitness trends that come along . In 2010 Kieran qualified and introduced Zumba, the dance fitness phenomenon to the Rialto. Now more recently, he has qualified as a Bokwa instructor where participants draw letters and numbers with their feet, while moving together to music in free form rhythm.
Kieran’s most recent accomplishment is achieving Honours in Fellowship in Modern Ballroom with the Allied Dance Teacher’s Association, July 2012. Kieran looks forward to the future and all the success it will bring.
