When can I start?
You can join our classes at any point! You don’t need to wait until the start of a new term, or book in advance - just come along on the day to register.
What do I wear?
Something comfy that you can move easily in, and won’t get too hot in!
You don’t need special shoes to begin with but if you would like to purchase some you can get shoes for all styles from the studio; plus we can give you advice on what you’ll need and what will be the best fit.
For Ballroom& Latin, Salsa, Tango, and Jive:
‘Smart casual’ is a guide, in reality anything from jeans or jogging bottoms to skirts and heels goes! Shoes with less grip, rather than a trainer, are better for this form of dance to aid you with turns and nice smooth movements! Ladies - if you comfy wearing a heel you may though please note stilettos or metal heels are not allowed in the studio as they damage the floor.
For Street & Jazz or Bollywood:
Sportswear and trainers are perfect for practicing these dance forms!
For Belly Dance:
Something loose and comfortable. Flats or bare feet are ok for this. And best of all – hip scarves are available to loan free of charge!
Do I need a partner?
No! Unlike many schools we don’t require you to bring a partner to Ballroom & Latin, Salsa, Tango or Jive. So long as you are prepared to join in and dance with whoever is there or have a run though with an instructor you will be fine! Please note that whilst we do our best to help out we cannot guarantee you will have a partner for the duration of the class (unless you bring one with you that is!).
Do I have to pay for a course of lessons?
No! We run on a ‘pay as you go’ basis, which means that you only have to pay for the classes you attend. You may do this at the start of each class, or if you wish you can puchase a voucher and save yourself a few pounds!
Can I bring my own water or drinks?
No, we are a licensed bar and coffee shop so only drinks purchased from the bar may be consumed on the premises.
Can my kids wait while my class takes place?
Children are not permitted to stay during adults class times. This ensures that children are not left unsupervised, preserves the adult atmosphere in the classes, and also gives you a break so you can fully relax!
I have a medical condition or injury – can I still take part?
Always consult your doctor before undertaking a new form of exercise. If you are unsure what dance form to try get in touch with us beforehand as we may be able to advise you.
Just let reception know of any medical conditions when you arrive, who will advise your instructor. Then just take things at your own pace and if you find anything too much don’t be afraid to say or ask you instructor for advice.
Many people find that the right form of dance can help them keep active, keep joints supple, and even help improve posture which can ease some aches and pains. Dance also has its therapeutic benefits – dance can help those suffering with stress or depression and could even be a helpful incentive if you are dieting or quitting smoking.
Be warned that dance comes with it’s own health warning – highly addictive!
